| About Boston City Singers
Auditions
Boston City Singers is
looking for promise and dedication in its new members. Auditions
are a positive experience for all children regardless of skill
level. No experience is necessary for participation in our training
choruses. An audition is a way for the Director to find out as
much as possible about a child's musical interest and to place
them at a level appropriate to their skills. Many children do
not have highly developed vocal skills, particularly at an early
age. For younger children, parents can prepare their child by
assuring them that an audition is a friendly experience and that
the audition generally takes about 10 minutes, during which the
potential members will be asked to:
|
-
Read
a short paragraph
- Sing a simple piece
-
Repeat
a simple rhythm
-
Talk
with the Director for a few minutes

Trained voices and sight reading
skills are not required for the younger groups, as the choral
training program provides vocal training, ear training, sight-singing
skills and choral discipline through the services of vocal coaches
and support from our seasoned Concert Chorus Mentors. However,
some experience is necessary for admission to the more advanced
levels. Qualifications include accurate intonation (the ability
to sing in tune), general musicality, and very strong motivation.
After acceptance, repeat auditions are held periodically as singers
move through the various training levels.
